Katie Rayson
I am from the Forest of Bowland and currently based in Nottingham, where I am finishing my BA (Hons) in Fine Art. The key motifs for my photography and unfired recyclable clay slab sculptures are natural recurring patterns, such as waves, explosions, and branching. My current project is about circular walks in the Forest of Bowland and peatland areas (carbon sinks), for example Clougha Pike Circular. Inspired by theories of psychogeography, “the effect of a geographical location on the emotions and behaviour of individuals.” (Tate Terms, 2023.), I encourage the exploration of natural spaces that combat the climate crisis (e.g., peatland). My recent exhibitions include ‘Project Pending…’ at Surface Gallery in April 2022 and ‘The Break’ at Twitchel Gallery in March 2023. I am a member of Outcome 2023 at Backlit Gallery, an environment themed collaborative project that will culminate in an exhibition in June 2023.
