Gus Beech
I am a final year BA (Hons) Fashion Knitwear Design & Knitted Textiles student with a particular interest in the preservation and reinterpretation of traditional textiles to promote slow-making and reintroduce an appreciation for craftsmanship to our throw-away culture . My strengths in knitwear design relate to material quality and the technical process of creating fabrics and garment construction. Being involved in every stage of an objects creation is incredibly rewarding and fulfils my interest in handcrafts and understanding a textiles social value. My collection is an investigation into antique textiles (such as rugs, tapestries, and other traditional handcrafts) and the emotional and social significance they hold to their creators/communities. Textiles were a way to share politics, faith, and stories to create a tangible snapshot of civilisation at the time of the objects creation. So much can be understood about a community by the appearance and purpose of their textiles.
