Ellie Miles
As a final year BA (Hons) student, I predominantly use oil paint encompassed within installation to surround viewers in a bubble of domestic ambience, further pushing an intimate vulnerability via the use of 'unfinished' portraiture. Drawing inspiration from the candour of private intimacy, I apply a poetic lens to paint the vibrant colours of ephemeral moments and write of the language of ineffability. Boundaries of known and unknown pulls me to create, recreate and extend to others. The human act of yearning is my core fascination – so to what extent can experience become poetic? Art is an expression of the self, and poetry is the expression of thought and feeling; to combine the two, in turn, creates an entirely different route of investigation toward "the mundane". Recent projects include 'Mimesis', a 2023 group exhibition at Surface Gallery and I have since been enamoured with working amongst other opportunities and hope to create a new artist collective within this vibrant city.
