Ciara Harris
Passionate about conceptual and innovative design, I am a 3rd Year BA (Hons) Textile Design student at NTU, specialising in printed textiles. My final project, 'Digital Authenticity – Blurring the Lines Between Real and Fake' aims to challenge our perception of the term authenticity in relation to technology and encourage the user to engage with the liminal space between the tangible and the virtual. Inspired by the rise of the Metaverse, I curated an immersive VR exhibition that highlights the contrast between the authenticity of handcrafted and digital design and illustrates the power of combining the two. Large scale engaging prints surround the headset-wearing user, eliciting a sense of nostalgia with lo-fi retro style imagery, brought to life by a merging of hand created designs rendered and abstracted by digital tools. In my future as a designer, I aim to explore where science, technology and design merge, in a cross-disciplinary approach to my practice.
