Chloe Fox
I am a final year BA (Hons) Fine Art student who lives and studies in Nottingham. My paintings look to strike back at the questionable morals and patriarchal undertones of fairy tales. This can be to expose the subjectivity of societal standards or to flip a childhood story on its head. I often use repeated characters inspired by childhood toys and clown figures to act out the narratives I manipulate and create. My most recent work 'The Wife of Bluebeard' plays on the morals of the original fairy tale in which it taught women to be blindly submissive to their husbands. During my second year, I worked together with other students in a residency at Surface Gallery which allowed me to gain practical skills in planning and collaborating professionally. My piece 'The Red Shoes' was also shortlisted for the Freelands painting prize alongside others. After graduating I hope to further develop the themes and characters in my work and connect with others artists around Nottingham.
