Amy Grocott
My name is Amy Grocott and I am a Nottingham based artist. My practice is primarily wool based, whilst also working with paint and other mixed media. I focus into skin cells and embark on reaching a contrast between seductive and disturbing art. I aim to create work that entices the audience as well as repelling them, within one piece. My work is all about challenging stereotypical perceptions of femininity, and using contrasting feelings towards my art to achieve this. Therefore, colour scheme and material is very important within my work. My use of these stereotypical feminine colours and materials, lead to a comforting and welcoming feel to my work. Previously, I enjoyed looking at distortion of skin, wounds and cuts, as well as dramatic and exaggerated facial expressions, which led me to zooming in and focusing directly on skin cells. This relates to phobias and consequently adding to those overwhelming feelings of seductiveness and disgust that are so prevalent within my practice.
