This body of work originates in the experience of being an international student in the UK. New to the country and culture, I found significant barriers to assimilating and forming social relationships with British students and citizens. The camera afforded a means to challenge me and attempt to break down some of the linguistic, social, and cultural differences that contributed to my experience of loneliness and isolation. The work is composed through a range of approaches that forced me to position myself in public space and ‘negotiate’ the making of my images. I worked simultaneously with other peer international students as well as home students to build a visual interpretation and understanding of my ‘temporary’ place in a ‘foreign’ culture. This approach forced me and afforded me the opportunity to meet a diverse number of subjects. This revealed extensive social and cultural differences and I established methods to visually represent and interpret all that I encountered. St
