Oliver Barber
I’m Oliver Barber, an emerging artist whose practice explores the depiction of personally significant domestic scenes, using washes and layers of acrylic paint. Through employing a combination of both bold colours and textures, alongside a manipulation of form and composition, I construct abstract spaces that would often be overlooked or considered mundane. By doing so, I translate these spaces from the experience into the tangible. With shape and structure defined by black linework, I allow space for the ‘portals’, interrogating the object and its relationships, both with that of the space and the transformative qualities of the ‘portal’ itself. I like to invite the viewer to question what they see before them, probing them to consider not only the significance of the ‘portals’ in the context of the painting, but their own personal significance that they tie to them.
