My passion lies in the arts, whether that is film, TV or theatre and this has been the basis for my studies to date. Throughout my time at NTU I have developed both my construction and design skills, learning technical skills to prepare for industry. The aim of my final year project was to test the limits of historical accuracy, exploring power dynamics and relationships, as well as demonstrating status within the characters and exploring innovation on stage. For this project I choose to base my costume designs and construction from a play by Robert Bolt from 1970 called Vivat! Vivat, Regina! which tells the story of the two rival monarchs who never met, Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I. I wanted to create visually exciting costumes inspired by modern couture fashion, as well as exploring elements of the historical dress from that time along with using symbolism to modernize the performance.
