I am an aspiring costume designer who thrives on creative challenges and developing unique costume designs. I have a passion for anything digital and colourful, as shown across my final university project ‘The Dark Land of Aus’. This enjoyable process allowed me flourish my digital photoshop skills to create 10 distinctive designs and construct 2 extravagant costumes of my choice. My final project explored the theme of natural disasters and the impact they have on the characters living in the land of Aus. With inspiration coming from the classic book ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ where I incorporated immersive theatre with sustainability, the design process began by making the lion seem as if he was caught in a bush fire, due to soaring climate temperatures, his fur is singed and his flesh is rotten. I went on to make a Tinman, who’s metal is broken into shards and erosion has taken over. I used my sewing skills to construct both costumes from scratch.
