Emma Graves
As an embroiderer, I take an illustrative approach to textiles. Through stitch, I tell a story of the morning; observing our habits and personal rituals which begin our days. The project is titled Sunny Side Up, a typical riposte to the perennial question - “How do you like your eggs in the morning?”. I use embroidery to preserve seemingly flippant moments and bring importance to the mundane. My materials are sustainably sourced; working on vintage linen tablecloths to portray stories of the mornings, naturally dying them with food waste products. I love creating multi-media textiles with reclaimed material and plan to catalogue antiques in my next job. My creative endeavours range from making a film for the BFI and an art foundation at UAL. I will always create my own textile art and hope to progress in fields such as illustration, textile design and vintage reclamation. “You can find inspiration in everything. If you can’t, then you’re not looking properly.” - Paul Smith
