Charlotte Carter
Charlotte’s mission is threefold: to deconstruct the traditional perception of knit; identify the characteristics of knit; and challenge and redefine traditional interpretations, thus creating a new, contemporary perspective on what knit can be. Grounded in a dissertation on the history and development of art and crafts, Charlotte is attempting to tun knit on its head by endowing banal materials, like wire, with a new meaning, breaking new boundaries while respecting tradition. In her photography, Charlotte explores the relationship between light, movement and knit through abstract observations giving her material investigations ambiguity and endless possibilities. Her observations capture both the intrinsic qualities of materials and structures and the dynamism of surface and texture. The interdependency of shadow and light is at the heart of her photographic explorations and provides an inspiration for her knits.
