Discovering printed textiles on foundation led me to the textile design course at NTU, where I found a love and appreciation for knitted textiles. I loved the tactility that knit has and how this can be changed through material, stitch, or gauge. By specialising in knitted textiles, I have developed a deeper understanding of knitted structure and gained knowledge in how the knitted fabrics are used in garment construction. Having previously studied Fine Art, I like taking inspiration from Art Movements to inspire my textile work. My textile collection, Surreality, is inspired by surrealist paintings in how they distort and obscure their subject matter. My outcomes are a combination of part garments that are only complete from the front and fabrics with garment details such as collars and cuffs; blurring the lines between what is a 3d garment or a 2d fabric. I received a yarn sponsorship from UPW which has allowed me to experiment with sustainable yarns with a mix of material qualities.
