Jim Pritchard
Jim's practice is interested in exploring notions of identity, society and the function of culture within a globalised world. Born and raised in the UK, he spent several years travelling and working in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Scandinavia. This experience has infused him with a passion and interest in our sense of place and the connections between home and identity. He explores these conceptual notions through the use of portraiture, still-life and landscape, utilising a combination of digital, analogue and alternative technologies in the production of his work. His most recent work: 'Identifying Structures', explores our relationship with identity through isolation and examination of the human fingerprint. Unique to all of us, our fingerprints function as an idealised signifier of individual identity in the West. However, when isolated from the body, we find they lack the ability to describe, questioning the distinction between identifier and identity.
