Preserving the Ephemeral Moment’ is a collection of woven textiles, enduring in aesthetic and encompassing a design ethos rooted in simplicity, quality and craftsmanship. The collection is a personal response to the desire for calm in the turmoil of 21st century living, promoting a mindful approach to design and consumption; forming connection between maker and material, consumer and cloth. Visual references are drawn from shadow imagery; ephemeral moments that provide the opportunity for respite and connection with our surrounding environment. Exploration of shape, silhouette and colour through drawing, mark making and collage occur prior to progressing to the loom and are essential components of the design process. Creative possibilities have been explored across hand woven and jacquard cloth using organic cotton and lambswool with emphasis placed on drape, handle and usability.
