I specialise in creative pattern cutting and the aim of my project is to explore how silhouettes can be created using handcraft techniques, reducing the need for many seams and darts. With the boom in home crafts due to the Covid-19 Pandemic many have learned to appreciate the time and skill that goes into producing something. Therefore, as a designer I am intrigued by the idea that we may start to observe garments differently than before. This emotional understanding could help support traditional skills and help toward a more sustainable approach to fashion. I was greatly inspired by a 19th century smocked blouse which has led me to experiment with smocking and shirring, developing designs which combine historical and contemporary silhouettes. Furthermore, by producing my patterns digitally I have learned the potential technology has in establishing sustainable solutions.
