The School of Art and Design held a series of amazing zine-related events that focused on the transformative power of reading, doodling and making for wellbeing. The workshops were run by NTU's Matt Gill of Raw Print.

A Conversation with Oscar Nominated Animation Director and Writer Chris Butler

Deputy Dean Natalie Brown is joined by Principal Lecturer in Animation Jeremy Moorshead for a conversation with Chris Butler. 

Chris Butler was the storyboard artist for ‘Coraline’ and ‘Corpse Bride’ as well as the writer and director for‘ParaNorman’ and ‘Missing Link’. His work has been nominated for multiple Awards with Laika winning the Golden Globe for best Animated Feature earlier this year. Chris will discuss his route to the Oscar’s and his time working at Laika Studios and the multiple designers and artists that contribute to the stop frame animations that Laika are renowned for.

Studio Photos Workshop

Studio Photos Workshop - Photographer Julian Hughes worked with students to create a photoshoot on the environment using props, studio lighting and the body.

Saturday Art Club is run as a partnership between Nottingham Trent University and the Saturday Club Trust from the autumn to the summer term each year. Aimed at pupils in Years 9, 10 and 11, our goal is to give the opportunity for young people to get involved in a subject we love, free of charge.

Clay Houses Workshop

Clay Houses Workshop - Ceramicist Anna Collette Hunt worked with remotely with the students to create their dream future homes out of clay, with an emphasis on how they would be powered.

Tote Bag Workshop

Tote Bag Workshop - Rosemary Maclennan worked with students to design and screenprint tote bags using bold shapes, colour and texture inspired by mid-century modern textiles.

Painting with Food

Painting with Food Workshop - Rosemary Maclennan presented an online workshop with students using food such as onion skin, tea, paprika and berries mixed with baking soda to create watercolour paintings.

Photogram Workshop - Photographer Julian Hughes presented a photogram workshop with students exploring form,opacity and detail through the placement of objects on photosensitive paper.
