Leonie Andrianirina-Rose
I have embarked on a personal journey through my part-time MA in Fashion and Textile Design at Nottingham Trent University, specialising in knitted textiles. My project ‘Yarns of my Ancestors’ has led me to find a means of expressing my cultural heritage and identity, enabling me to pay homage to my ancestors. I explore narratives as part of my design process, combined with techniques using domestic and hand flat machines to create knitted textiles and garments for the purpose of tactile immersion. My strengths are representing narratives of African-Caribbean women during a period in Black History, demonstrating emotional intelligence, innovation, problem solving in addition to communicating visually. Future career possibilities for myself are to develop my strengths in becoming an independent curator/exhibitor, an educator of Black women in history or to further my studies at PhD-level, pursuing an area about which I'm passionate.
